Monday's MLB Free Pick: Orioles vs Tigers

I love when a prop number is sitting in the wrong spot, and Kyle Bradish is a strong example of that today. His pitching outs line is set at 17.5; sometimes you find value on the odds, and sometimes you project the prop itself to be off a bit. Here I see both.

Bradish has been mostly under this outs line, so I get why somebody might look at the surface and move on. But the surface is not the whole story. A lot of those under results came against very tough offenses on the road, and that context matters a lot. His road starts consisted of games against the Yankees, Rays Padres, Pirates, White Sox - these are all top 15 offenses at home. When the competition eased up over his last 4 games (SEA, LAA, CIN, BOS), he went over this number in all 4. That is the part I care about most today, because another weaker opponent is sitting in front of him again.

The matchup lines up well

Detroit has not seen Bradish yet this season, and I like that angle a lot. Fresh looks matter. If a lineup has not faced a pitcher, there is usually a little more early uncertainty, and early outs are exactly what you want when backing a pitcher to go 6 innings.

The Tigers also do not present the strongest home split versus right-handed pitching. Since the All-Star break, Detroit has been bottom 10 versus righties at home. We just need Bradish to stay in rhythm, and the way he has pitched in the more favorable spots tells me that is a very realistic path.

Final read

The under trend on Bradish is solid, but the why behind it matters more than the raw result. Tough road offenses pushed some of those outings down. Lighter matchups have done the opposite, and the last 4 games show that clearly. With a fresh look from Detroit, a home split that is not especially intimidating, and Bradish in strong July form, I think the path is there again.
