Tuesday MLB Free Pick: Brewers vs Giants
The cleanest read on Tuesday night is a familiar one.
I like this spot a lot more than the box score from last night would suggest. The Brewers were shut out 3-0 by the Giants, and that kind of result can push a lot of people the wrong way. Most bettors will see the zeroes, remember the quiet bats, and move on. I do not want to overreact to one offense when the larger profile still points in Milwaukee’s direction.
First, the road favorite angle is doing a lot of work here. This is one of those spots I have played a ton this season, the shutout system is active again, and the numbers have been strong over a long sample. It has gone 112-49 (70%) L10 seasons and 11-4 (73%) this year.
Milwaukee also keeps showing the same thing in this role. The Brewers are 21-9 this season as a road favorite, which is exactly the kind of split you want when laying a modest price away from home.
And that is really the core of the case here. Milwaukee is the better team in a bounce back spot. The Brewers have already handled the road this season, entering today at 30-20 away from home, and they have been rolling lately at 7-3 over their last 10.
Why I am not chasing the Giants’ last result
The Giants did enough last night, but I would be careful about reading too much into it. Milwaukee managed only 3 hits, which makes the shutout feel cleaner than it may actually be. I do not expect that same level of success from San Francisco again.
That matters because the Giants are far from an elite pitching staff. Even if Landen Roupp has been throwing quality starts in his last 3 outings, and even if he has been one of their better starters, the bigger season-long picture still says Milwaukee has the edge as the Giants are only 7-13 in his starts this season.
That is enough for me to respect him, not enough for me to upgrade San Francisco into a side I want at home.
The line still feels playable
This is also a price read. Milwaukee sitting at -144 on ProphetX does not feel expensive enough for a road favorite carrying this kind of profile.
The Giants have been a below average home dog too, especially against stiffer competition, and the Brewers have already shown they can travel and win in this role. Add in the bounce back setup after an uncharacteristic offensive night, and the path is pretty clear.
Pick: Brewers ML at -144
