Thursday MLB Pick: Tigers vs Giants

I found a spot on Thursday's MLB slate where the numbers line up pretty cleanly, and it starts with Detroit coming in off another big offensive night.

The Tigers just put up 11 runs in an 11-0 win over Seattle on Aug. 6, and that matters more than people may realize. When a team has that kind of scoring burst, it tends to tell you the bats are in a good place right now, not just in a single random spot. Detroit has also had multiple double-digit scoring games in the immediate lead-up to this matchup, so this is not a one-night thing. The offense has actually shown up, and that matters a lot more than surface-level reputation.

Why the Tigers fit here

There are a couple of systems pointing straight toward Detroit, and both are in a range I want to pay attention to.

It points to a simple idea, if you have a road favorite in a spot where the opponent has been below the break-even line, the favorite has usually handled business.

For me, this is one of those spots where Detroit has enough going for it to keep things simple. The offense is hot enough to matter, the systems are supportive, and the Giants have not given enough reason to trust them at home.
