Tuesday's MLB Pick: Guardians at Tigers
I actually think this is one of the cleaner spots on the MLB card.
The Tigers enter this series in much better form than the last time they saw Cleveland, and that matters more than a lot of people want to admit. When a team has already been handled by the same opponent in back-to-back series, first in a 2-game short series and then in a 4-game series before that, it does not take much to turn the next meeting into a revenge spot. That is exactly how I’m looking at it here.
And that revenge angle has been strong, 98-47 (67%).
Why this spot stands out
What really makes Detroit appealing is that this is not a blind fade of a hot number or a random home dog angle. It is a response to a very specific recent run between these teams, and the price is still manageable at -115.
Cleveland has already shown it can make Detroit uncomfortable, but the broader setup still points the other way. The Guardians have been unreliable offensively, and that has been a theme that keeps showing up whenever Tanner Bibee takes the mound. MLB coverage even described Cleveland’s offense as “silent” behind Bibee in the June 13 win at Detroit, which is about as clear a warning sign as you can ask for.
That is the part that keeps me on Detroit. If you are asking Cleveland to carry the scoring load in a spot where it has not been dependable, that is a tough ask. I’m more than comfortable being on the other side of Bibee here, because the Tigers do not need a perfect offensive night to make this bet work. They just need Cleveland to do what it has already done too often, go quiet at the wrong time.
Bibee does not change the read
I know Bibee can still pull people toward Cleveland, because there is always a natural pull toward the better-known starter. But this is not a spot where I want to overvalue that.
MLB also noted Bibee’s 2026 record was still 0-6 even after a strong start in that June 13 game, which fits the same idea. Even when he has worked well enough to keep Cleveland in it, the run support has not always been there. That is the issue here. You can respect the arm without trusting the full team environment around it.
There is also the matter of Cleveland’s injury situation, with José Ramírez on the IL with a left hamate fracture and Angel Martínez on the IL with a left foot fracture. Those absences matter when you are already talking about a lineup that has been unreliable. It is not about forcing a big dramatic angle, it is about recognizing when the offense has enough holes that a decent starter does not fully solve the problem.
And finally, Detroit has already shown it can handle this matchup. MLB reported the Guardians completed a four-game sweep of the Tigers in mid-June, but that only adds to the motivation here. Teams remember those runs. The Tigers do not need much of a push to make this one feel different than the last time these clubs met.
The pick
This is the kind of spot where I want to trust the cleaner current setup, the revenge angle, and the side with more reason to respond.
Give me the Tigers moneyline at -115 for 1 unit.
