Thursday Night Football Preview: Panthers vs Packers
Thursday night football gives us a pretty clean setup in Green Bay, and I actually think the edges point in the same direction.
The Panthers come in at 3-3, the Packers at 4-3, and this is the kind of spot where I want to lean into the game script instead of forcing a single side or a single total. When three angles line up, that usually gives you a better SGP build than trying to overcomplicate it. That is really the idea here.
Packers side fits the spot
The first piece is Green Bay at home.
The Packers have not been a high-flying offense by any stretch, but they are still the team I trust more in this matchup. Carolina has been giving up 5.2 yards per carry this season, which is the worst mark in the NFL, and that matters in a Thursday night game where clean execution can be a little harder to find. If you are giving up that much on the ground, you are asking for drives to extend, field position to tilt, and the opponent to stay in control without needing to light up the scoreboard.
That is where the Packers moneyline starts to make sense. I do not need them to be dominant, I just need them to be the cleaner team in a game that may not feature a bunch of explosive back-and-forth scoring.
And honestly, Green Bay’s own offensive profile helps the under angle too. They are averaging 20.6 points per game, which ranks 24th in the league. That does not scream shootout. It points to a team that can win without turning the whole night into a track meet.
Hubbard still feels live
The second piece is Chuba Hubbard to find the end zone.
Carolina’s offense has been leaning heavily on Hubbard, and the numbers back that up. He has 459 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs on 96 carries this season, so the workload is real. He is also listed as a full participant on the latest Week 8 injury report, so there is no practice limitation clouding his availability.
Now, the last game matters too. Hubbard was held to seven carries for 33 yards in Week 7 after back-to-back 120-plus-yard rushing games. That tells me the usage can swing depending on flow, which is exactly why I like touchdown equity more than trying to guess on a monster yardage number.
If Carolina gets into the red zone and wants to stay on script, Hubbard is still the most natural answer.
Why the under fits the whole script
Finally, the total ties the whole thing together.
I do not need a fireworks show here. I think both teams can land in a more controlled style of game, and there are enough reasons to expect that. Green Bay has not yet rushed for 100 yards in any game this season, which is a pretty notable wrinkle, and Carolina just lost right tackle Taylor Moton for the season, which is a real hit to pass protection and overall offensive stability.
That kind of loss does not automatically kill an offense, but it absolutely can make things messier, especially on a short week. That usually helps the under more than it hurts it.
So when I put it all together, I see one side, one touchdown angle, and one lower-scoring path that all match up with each other. That is enough for me to take a very small swing.
Very small sprinkle on this SGP for me on FanDuel, and I am going with PARLAY: PACKERS ML, HUBBARD TD, UNDER 47.5 at +690, 0.2 units.
