Thursday Night Football: 49ers vs Rams Preview

I actually like this spot a lot more than the market probably does.

When you look at 49ers-Rams, it is easy to go straight to the headline stuff, the division angle, the primetime stage, all of that. But the cleaner angle is inside the offense, where Kyle Shanahan has a very clear history with Deebo Samuel. That familiarity matters, especially early in the season, and especially in a spot where the Niners may need answers that arrive fast.

Why Deebo fits this spot

The nice thing about Deebo is that his value is not tied to one route or one look. Shanahan has used him as a pass catcher and a runner in the past, with plenty of motion, screens, and easy touches built in. That is exactly why I think there is sneaky value here.

Against a Rams front that can bring real heat, you do not want to spend forever holding the ball. You want quick options. You want players who can turn a simple touch into a scoring chance. Deebo has always fit that mold better than most.

And finally, that matters near the goal line too.

A lot of anytime TD props are based on volume or pure talent, but this one has a little more shape to it. It is not just "he is good, so maybe he scores." It is, "this offense already knows how to manufacture touches for him in the exact spots that can lead to points." That is the edge I am looking at.

The matchup pushes toward quick answers

The Rams have one of the best d-lines we will ever see, and that changes how you attack them. If the rush can get home, everything has to speed up. That means the offense leans into motion, misdirection, and short-area plays that let a playmaker work before the defense is fully set.

That is where Deebo can quietly become the best scoring bet on the board.

I think people sometimes overcomplicate these kinds of plays. They start hunting for the obvious red-zone target or the big-body receiver and forget that a player like Deebo can score in ways that do not require a perfect throw or a long drive. A screen, a sweep, a quick hitter in space, those all count the same once the ball crosses the line.

The other piece here is comfort. Samuel returning to the Niners, or at minimum operating in a familiar Shanahan structure, is not something I want to ignore. Familiarity can matter a lot when you are talking about touchdown props. The offense does not need to reinvent anything. It can lean into what it already knows works.

Small sprinkle, real upside

This is not the kind of play where I would try to force a big position. I like it as a sprinkle, exactly as the note says. At +350, you are getting a price that gives the play room to breathe, and the role fits the matchup better than the number might suggest at first glance.

If the Rams are creating pressure, the Niners are going to need quick answers. If Shanahan wants to simplify the script, Deebo is one of the best answers he has. That is enough for me.

I am taking Deebo Samuel anytime TD at +350, 0.5 units.
