NFL Sunday Night Football: Cowboys vs Giants Preview
Sunday night in MetLife should bring plenty of noise, and actually, that is part of the case here.
Dallas heads into this one with Dak Prescott sitting on a passing number that feels a bit high on FanDuel, especially in Week 1. That is the first thing that stands out. The market is asking him to clear 263.5 pass yds, and that is not a cheap ask in a spot where the flow of the night can turn quickly.
Why the setup leans down
Divisional meetings tend to tighten up fast, and this one has that feel from the jump. The Giants are expected to be scrappy, and if their offense has any success, Dallas will not hold the ball as much. That matters a lot here. Fewer drives means fewer chances to pile up easy volume, and that is exactly the kind of thing that can sink a pass-yard prop.
If the Cowboys do control things instead, that does not automatically help Prescott either. In that script, Dallas can lean more on the run late, shorten the night, and keep the passing count from climbing into dangerous territory. So the two most obvious paths both point in the same direction. Either New York keeps Dallas off the field, or Dallas pulls away and turns the closing stretch into a ground-heavy finish.
That is why this number feels a little inflated to me.
The Week 1 angle matters
There is also the simple fact that Prescott did not take any preseason reps. That matters more than people want to admit. Timing, rhythm, and early-game sharpness are real, and Week 1 often tells on quarterbacks who are still finding their groove. The note on starters without preseason reps going over 60% of the time is strong support, and Prescott fits that bucket.
You can add in the road-favorite angle too. QBs as road favorites go under their passing yards prop 59% of the time overall, and that is not a trend I want to ignore in a spot like this. It is not the only reason to play it, but it lines up with the rest of the picture. The market is pricing in a clean, efficient Dallas passing night, and I do not think that is the most likely outcome.
The Cowboys also rested Prescott during the preseason, which may help him stay focused on Week 1, but focus is not the same thing as volume. He can be ready and still land below this number if the script does not cooperate. That is the part many people miss.
Primetime can still stay modest
The Sunday Night Football setting adds some juice, sure, and the matchup carries enough storylines to draw attention. Dak Prescott versus the Giants, the pass rush versus the Cowboys offense, and the charged MetLife backdrop all make this feel bigger than a normal opener. Still, bigger stage does not always mean bigger passing totals.
The injury report will matter late in the week too, and any live status tracking only adds more uncertainty around how this spot unfolds. I always like being on the side that does not need perfection from the offense to win. This is one of those spots.
Dak does not need to play poorly for this to cash. He just needs the night to stay balanced, the Giants to hang around, or Dallas to lean on the run if it gets control. That is enough. Actually, it is more than enough.
So I am playing it simple here.
DAK PRESCOTT (DAL) UNDER 263.5 PASS YDS at -113, 1 unit.
