Sunday NFL Pick: Ravens vs Bills
Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET feels like a spot where the number matters more than the names on the jerseys. Buffalo has the headline appeal, sure, but I actually do not want to lay too much respect on the home side here. Baltimore is catching points, Lamar Jackson is trending back, and the setup is good enough for me to stay on the Ravens.
Why I like Baltimore in this spot
The first thing here is Jackson. He is expected to start after practicing in full on Thursday, and earlier reports already pointed toward a return from the ankle injury. That matters, obviously. Baltimore is a different offense when Lamar is out there.
But even if he were not, I am still fine with Tyler Huntley at +3.5. That is not me trying to force a hero angle, it is just the number doing enough work. Huntley has already kept Baltimore inside the spread in his starts before, and the Ravens have shown enough road comfort to keep this live either way. Baltimore is 3-1 away from home, which fits the dog case pretty well.
The bigger point is Baltimore needs this more than Buffalo does. The Ravens enter at 4-3 after back to back divisional losses, and sitting in last place in the AFC North is not where this group wants to be. I expect a sharper response from them. There is a little urgency in that, and I do think it shows up.
Buffalo is not a spot I want to pay up for
Buffalo coming off the bye sounds good in theory, but it can also mean a little rust early. I am not saying the Bills are broken, I am saying I do not love rushing to lay points in a 1:00 p.m. ET game after a break, especially in a home environment that has already shown some cracks.
The Bills have already had mixed results at home, beating the Chargers but losing to the Patriots in Buffalo earlier this season. So the home edge is not enough, for me, to justify laying more than a field goal in this matchup. In the new stadium, the advantage does not feel as strong as the old one did, and this early daytime slot only makes me less interested in the home side.
Josh Allen is still Josh Allen, and I am a huge Allen fan. That is exactly why I do not want to lay above 3 here. If I am paying that kind of tax, I want more certainty than I am seeing in this spot.
Baltimore has answers on both sides
I actually like the Baltimore matchup on both sides of the ball. The Ravens defense is in a good spot against Buffalo, especially after the way last game ended with the second half against Cincinnati. I expect a bounce back there.
On offense, Baltimore should be able to create explosives. Derrick Henry changes the ground game immediately, and Zay Flowers gives them another path through the air. The Bills defense can be had, and I do not think Baltimore needs a perfect offensive script to move the ball. It just needs enough balance to stay within striking distance, and I think it has that.
That is the cleanest case here. Baltimore can run, can throw, and can answer if Buffalo starts hot. Add in the fact that Lamar appears close to returning, and finally the point spread feels a little too generous toward the home side.
Jackson has also been strong in this role before, and even the Huntley numbers do not scare me off. If the Ravens are getting more than a field goal, I want the dog.
