Monday Night Football: Bears vs Seahawks

We got a clean betting angle on Monday night, because the market is already saying the same thing I am, this should be a close one.

Chicago heads into Seattle at 5-2, Seattle sits at 5-2 too, and when both sides arrive with the same record, I actually pay closer attention to the spread than the name on the jersey. At that point, the question is not who looks stronger on paper. The question is whether the number is giving you enough room to grab the better side.

In this spot, I want the points.

Why 3.5 matters here

Prediction markets are already on 3.5, and current books are showing Bears +3.5 as well. That matters because once a line lands in that range, every little edge in a tight matchup starts to count. You do not need a dominant team. You need the side that can stay inside the number when the margin is thin.

That is where Chicago fits for me.

Seattle is at home, and Lumen Field is always part of the conversation in a spot like this. But the matchup itself tells me this is not the kind of number I want to lay. Seattle has leaned on the run and ball control, and NFL’s game center has the Seahawks at 31:45 average time of possession, ranked 6th. That kind of profile can shorten a contest, keep possessions limited, and bring the closing margin into a tighter window.

When a team wants to play that style, getting more than a field goal becomes valuable real fast.

Chicago’s defense can hang in this spot

What also stands out here is Chicago’s defense creating takeaways. Through six weeks, the Bears had 12 takeaways, including eight interceptions, both ranking No. 2 in the NFL at that point.

That is the kind of defensive profile I want on the road when I am holding plus points. If you can create extra possessions, you do not need everything to go perfectly on offense. You just need a few moments where the game swings your way, and a spread like this can be covered without needing a clean, easy script.

This is not me saying Chicago has to control the matchup from start to finish. It does not need to be that simple. It just needs to be competitive enough to keep the door open deep into the fourth quarter, and a turnover-driven defense gives you that chance.

Seattle still has something to answer

Seattle will have Zach Charbonnet off the injury report and set for his season debut against Chicago after returning from a knee injury and torn ACL. That matters, because it gives Seattle another piece in a run-focused approach. But from a betting angle, I do not see that as a reason to rush toward the favorite.

If anything, it confirms the style Seattle wants to play. Run the ball, control the clock, keep the tempo where they want it. That can be useful for a home team, sure, but it also means the spread matters even more. A slower pace tends to compress outcomes, and compressed outcomes are where the dog can quietly do its work.

And that is really the story here. I do not need Chicago to look flashy. I do not need a statement win. I just need a team sitting at 5-2, catching a number that is sitting above a field goal, in a matchup where both sides have shown enough to keep this tight.

Finally, I will take the Bears +3.5 at -115 for 2 units.
